Shops which are also open on Sundays

If you are busy in Vienna, spending your time with sightseeing and visiting all the many attractions in the city, it could happen that you forget something important: shopping! For some visitors, it comes as a surprise that, in Austria, shops are normally closed on Sundays. But in Vienna this will not spoil your holiday mood as enough shops also open their doors on Sundays. You only have to know where they are.

Would you like to buy fresh food on Sunday? No problem – in Vienna everything is possible. Even on a Sunday, you are guaranteed to be able to buy fresh produce. After you have done your shopping, you can then cook something delicious in one of our CheckVIENNA apartments, which are equipped with a modern kitchen.

First of all, we would like to mention the supermarkets, which are located at the larger train stations as it is easy and fast to travel to them by public transport. At Praterstern, there are two supermarkets from larger chains (Billa and Railshop) while at the main train station (Hauptbahnhof), you will discover, in addition to various other shops, an Interspar supermarket. At Westbahnhof, you can shop in a Billa Plus mini market.

Our Tip: On Sundays, the queues can be long in these shops and we recommend that you simply take a longer waiting time into account or simply get up a little earlier to avoid the rush.

Railshop, Opening times:
