Eating enough fat on a ketogenic diet is essential when it comes to getting into ketosis. This is especially true when it comes to a keto diet for beginners.

Whether you’re brand new to keto, or even if you’ve eaten a high fat diet for a while, please understand not all fats are created equal. Since not just any fat will do, a great way to get more fat into a keto lifestyle is with healthy keto fat bombs.

How Chocolate Butter Can Help You Burn More Fat

Chocolate butter is a keto friendly butter recipe mixed with decadent chocolate. This keto treat checks off two important high fat diet musts:

#1 – Chocolate butter is a basic recipe that helps you increase fat intake on keto

#2 – This sweet treat crushes through sweet cravings that can keep keto dieters stuck.

This creamy fat bomb helps with weight loss on a high fat diet since it satisfies the high fat part of the equation.

Healthy Fats Help Your Body Feel Safe

Have you ever wondered how to boost metabolism on keto?

Healthy fat bombs are the perfect way to let your brain know it’s safe. Eating fat to satiation signals there’s enough nutrients coming in. When your body doesn’t feel threatened by starvation mode, it can let go of stored body fat. This is pretty much the entire point of a keto diet.

Unlike mainstream health news suggests, my favorite combination of healthy fats is made up of the saturated fats your brain needs to thrive. These include good fats like coconut oil and grass-fed butter. These are my favorite keto fat sources that help Keto Challengers get BIG results during the live 21 Day Keto Challenge.

Many of the rules challengers follow differ from what you learn from other popular keto resources. Since Keto Challengers lose between 10 – 25 pounds in only 21 days, and many even break through longstanding weight loss stalls – I’d say different is better.

Let’s get to how to make this dark chocolate keto friendly recipe! Keep reading since I’ll explain even more reasons chocolate keto fat bombs are a great way to crush through sugar cravings. They can also boost fat loss results on keto – so it’s a double win!

How to Make Keto Chocolate Butter Fat Bombs

Before getting started, measure out the heavy cream and set aside. The heavy cream needs to be close to room temperature when it mixes with warmed dark chocolate. This step is important. If you skip it, the chocolate mixture will curdle when you stir in the heavy cream.

Next, line a mini muffin tin with mini muffin liners. You can also use ice cube trays or silicone molds for keto fat bomb recipes. If that’s what you have on hand, those work too.

Melt the dark chocolate and butter together over medium-low heat. Keep an eye on the fats as they melt together so you don’t burn the chocolate.

I’ve tried multitasking while melting chocolate and I fail miserably each time. Let’s just say burnt chocolate fats bombs don’t curb my sweet tooth cravings in quite the same way.

Dark Chocolate Bars vs. Cocoa Powder

I prefer to use a high quality dark chocolate, like Lindt 90% Dark or Endangered Species. I melt this down instead of using unsweetened cocoa powder. This works better for fat bombs since I no longer use keto-friendly sweetener in keto desserts.

I also avoid sugar free chocolate chips. Even though they’re convenient, most brands use the sweeteners I try to avoid.

At the beginning of my keto lifestyle, I used cacao powder mixed with stevia drops. I lost a lot of weight, even when I ate fat bombs mixed with various sweeteners.

The Skinny on Keto Friendly Sweeteners

While it’s possible to lose weight with sweetened low carb recipes, keto-friendly sweeteners can lead to cravings for more sweets on a low-carb diet. This means adding too much low carb sweetener isn’t great for long term weight loss.

If you want to add sweeteners to this keto fat bomb recipe because you’re still accustomed to very sweet treats, check out this free Keto Sweetener Guide. The guide shows you the best keto sweeteners, like liquid stevia and monk fruit sweetener. This will help you learn which sweeteners to avoid. These include sweeteners made with sugar alcohols or maple syrup.

We teach Keto Decoded members to wean themselves off of artificial sweeteners overtime. Please understand this step isn’t necessary for everyone who follows a keto plan. It is helpful if you struggle with cravings on a low carb diet.

Cutting back on sweeteners can also do good things for your gut microbiome. Working to improve gut health has a lot to do with easy weight maintenance once you reach you goal.

All of this to say there are far too many people who focus only on grams of net carbs. Maybe they’re even worried about eating too much fat. There’s definitely not enough people who worry about eating mostly real food. When you focus on real food and count total carbs instead of cheating with net carbs, it’s easier to lose weight on keto.

Small amounts of sweeteners here and there are perfectly fine. Overdoing the sweet stuff on a low carb diet can keep you stuck!

Keto sweetener rants aside, let’s get back to how to make this tasty keto snack recipe.

Stir and Freeze

Once the chocolate mixture melts, set it aside so it cools.

Remember – this step is important to avoid a weird curdly mess. Once the chocolate butter mixture is near room temp, whisk in the heavy cream and vanilla extract. Combine well.

Add the mixture into the lined cupcake tins in 1 tablespoon increments. Place the tray in the freezer until firm. This should take approximately 20-30 minutes. Once firm, store the chocolate butter in an airtight container or Ziploc bag in the fridge or freezer.

If you plan to eat these within a week, storing them in the fridge is fine. If it will take you longer to get through a batch, keep them in the freezer and pull a few out each day.

Digestion is Important When You Add More Healthy Fats

The best time to eat these delicious keto treats is with a meal. This is especially true if you’re brand new to keto and you’re not able to digest fat well.

When you eat fat bombs during a meal, or even right after, digestion is already going on. Eating fat bombs closer to meals makes for easier fat digestion.

These can be eaten as a snack to fill in hunger gaps on keto if you don’t have any issues digesting fat. You know your body struggles to digest fat if you experience any of the following when starting keto: nausea, acne, itchy skin, loose stool or stool that’s light in color, diarrhea, gas, or if you no longer have a gallbladder.

If any of these symptoms occur when starting keto, these are signs you need to improve digestion. If you ignore these problems, sticking to keto long term will be difficult. You also probably won’t lose weight past a few weeks on keto.

The good news is working to improve digestion isn’t hard. It does take effort, but I promise the effort is so worth it in the long run. Improving digestion will help you finally stick to keto. When you’re consistent with keto, that’s when you get the weight loss results you want!

If any of this sounds familiar, take the free keto digestion course. It walks you through how to improve digestion, step by step.

I tried different versions of low carb diets for years, but could never stick to them long enough to lose the weight. Once I took time to improve digestion, all of that changed! I lost 100 pounds with a low carb lifestyle and was able to maintain what I lost for the first time ever.
