Backyard Habitats will be the topic at the next meeting of Inverness Garden Club at 12:30 Thursday in the recreation building of Whispering Pines Park, Inverness. Joan Lippman will present the program. To learn more about bringing birds and other animals to your yard, this is the program to attend.

Joe Quadrini and Peg will provide music and entertainment for the Valentine's Day dance, 7 p.m. Thursday at the Lecanto Multi-Purpose Senior Center, 1410 S Lecanto Highway.

Refreshments will be served and a singles table will give bachelors and bachelorettes a chance to meet and mingle. Admission is $3.

The Knights of Columbus, Abbot Francis Sadler Council 6168 of Beverly Hills will present its 10th annual salute to the Irish at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 22 at Curtis Peterson Auditorium in Lecanto.

The featured star of this musical variety show is Noel Kingston, who is consideredsynonymous with the best in Irish-American entertainment since the mid-1960s. Noel has performed with his wide-ranging tenor voice at Carnegie Hall, Madison Square Garden, the Lincoln Center and the Kennedy Center. He also has had numerous recording sessions and radio and television appearances together with personal appearances on stage throughout the United States and Canada.

Starring with Noel is Eamon O'Connor, billed as "Ireland's Most Versatile Comedy Entertainer." His ad-lib style of comedy with the audience and easy-going presence on stage is said to guarantee a rolling-in-the aisles fun time.

Sharing the spotlight with these two will be singer Helen O'Leary from County Cork and the Irish dance group from Ocala, Tir Na Greine.

The Citrus Springs Library Association installed new officers at the January meeting. Madge Ashley installed the officers and members of the Library Board.

They are president Virginia Buelke; vice president Joan McCandlish; secretary Lorna Eastman; and treasurer Larry Weaver. New board members are Donette Bergeson, Jeanne Decker, John Eisenmann, John Buelke, Norma Rourke, Dorothy Dahlby and Hilda Weaver.

The library will celebrate its recently completed addition at the Library Open House Celebration from 2-4 p.m. Feb. 24. The community is invited to join the celebration and tour the facility.

The Spring Book Sale will be March 9. Donated books may be brought to the library during library hours: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursdays and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays.

Citrus Hearing Impaired Program Services is under contract with Florida Telecommunication Relay Inc. to provide equipment training to clients who receive FTRl equipment.

FTRI is a not-for-profit organization and the administrator of the Florida Equipment Distribution Program. The program provides specialized telephones and ring signaling devices at no charge to qualified residents of Florida who are deaf, hard of hearing, deaf/blind or speech impaired.

This program offers many services and benefits. To request an FTRI Equipment Distribution Program application, call 1-800-222-3448 (Voice) or 1-888-447-5620 (TTY) from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays or visit the FTRI Web site at www.ftri.org.

Once FTRI has approved the application, equipment will be shipped to you. Then CHIPSwill schedule equipment training at no charge.

TAKE A LOOK

Celebrate Valentine's Day with the sweet music of the big band era. The Kiwanis Club of hom*osassa Springs presents the 42nd Street Orchestra in two performances at 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday at Curtis Peterson Auditorium in Lecanto.

Tickets are $12 in advance or $14 at the door. They are available at all local offices of Regions Bank, Bank of America in Crystal River and Inverness, and SunTrust Bank offices. They may also be purchased at the Citrus County Chamber of Commerce or from Kiwanis members.

The work of local artist Frank Vilardi is on display at Citrus Springs Memorial Library, 1826 W Country Club Blvd. in Citrus Springs.

This collection of oil paintings embodies a variety of subjects. This display will remain on exhibit during February.

Vilardi also has paintings at Black Diamond Country Club and in the Art Hallway of the Central Florida Community College campus in Lecanto.

The library staff invites the community to visit Citrus Springs Memorial Library and view these paintings, compliments of Vilardi.

Now is the time for local artists and crafters to reserve a space to sell their work at the upcoming Women of Sugarmill Woods Arts and Crafts Fair set for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 6 at Southern Woods Country Club, Route 480 and Corkwood Boulevard within the Sugarmill Woods community.

This annual show is sponsored by the women's organization as a fundraiser to help support its scholarships and philanthropies and to provide an opportunity for residents of Sugarmill Woods and its neighboring areas to see and purchase items made by local artists and crafts people.

The show is open to the public and to exhibitors from throughout the area and is not limited to Sugarmill Woods' residents. To reserve a space for $15, call 382-4522.

Gulf Islands Civic Theatre presents two dinner performances of Kiss or Make Up, a light-hearted, three act comedy by Jack Sharkey, at 6:15 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Andre's of Citrus Hills.

Dinner will be served at 5 p.m. with seating at 4:30. A cash bar is available.

There is a choice of three entrees: sliced sirloin, pan fried tilapia or chicken marsala accompanied by salad, vegetable, potato, bread and dessert. The cost of $27 includes the show, meal, tax and gratuity.

Auxiliarist of the Year

At a recent meeting of the Crystal River 15-1 Flotilla of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, Art Boennighausen of hom*osassa was given the flotilla's award as Auxiliarist of the Year 2001. Boennighausen was the flotilla staff officer for the Marine Dealer Liaison, which keeps area marinas, boat dealers and marine supply dealers up to date on flotilla safe boating courses. Presenting the award is Roger Smith, flotilla commander. The award is given to a flotilla auxiliarist who demonstrates superior effort on behalf of his discipline and makes an outstanding contribution in furthering the auxiliary's safe boating mission.
